Organized by the United Organization for Education and Sports Development (UOESD) in partnership with the Maurice Akueme Foundation, this prestigious event offers students from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across Nigeria a national platform to showcase their critical thinking, public speaking, and persuasive skills.

Overview of UOESD National Debating Championship 2025

The 12th edition of the UOESD National Debating Championship welcomes schools nationwide to participate in a multi-stage debate competition to nurture young intellectuals and future leaders. Debaters will argue for or against pre-assigned topics based on their education level.

Debate Topics for the 2025 Competition

Each level of education has a unique topic for the championship:

• Primary Schools: “Schools should be seen as a better agent of socialization than the family.”
• Secondary Schools: “The Nigerian Government has done more good than harm to its citizens.”
• Tertiary Institutions: “Africa’s underdevelopment is natural, not man-made.”

Eligibility and Entry Guidelines

Who Can Participate

• Open to Nigerian schools only
• Categories include:
  • Primary schools
  • Secondary schools
  • Tertiary institutions

Registration Details

• No registration fee is required
• Unlimited entries allowed from tertiary institutions
• One team per primary or secondary school

Team Composition

• Primary & Secondary Schools: 1 team of 3 speakers
• Tertiary Institutions: Multiple teams allowed
• Teams may argue for or against the assigned motion

Speaking Time Allotment

• Speaker 1: 5 minutes
• Speaker 2: 3 minutes
• Speaker 3: 2 minutes

How to Submit Your Entry

Each school must:

1. Record a video of the whole debate presentation
2. Include the following in the video or a cover message:
   • School name
   • Names of the speakers
   • State of origin
   • Active contact number

• Video Entry Opens: 30th March 2025
• Entry Closes: 30th September 2025
• Zonal Elimination Stage: October 2025 – March 2026
• National Grand Finale: July 2026

• Gold Medal: Score between 90% – 100%
• Silver Medal: Score between 80% – 89%
• Bronze Medal: Score between 70% – 79%
